Food handling guidelines and Some Rules

We have some basic food handling guidelines for the volunteers helping at the kitchen, food line and bar. We will be handing this out to you at the Mexican Pavilion, but you can also download them here:

We also have some rules for you when you get to the pavilion:

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ARRIVING OR LEAVING VOLUNTEERS!

1.- YOU MUST REGISTER. If you do not register we won’t have the chance to be the winner of one of the volunteer raffles, and we won’t be able to send you an invitation to the volunteer party.

2.- YOU MUST INPUT YOUR WORKIN HOURS (IN AND OUT). If you don’t do this we will assume you only volunteered 1 hour

3.- ONLY YOU CAN REGISTER YOURSELF. We will be checking signatures; if we find no signature or different signatures for the same person we won’t count your hours for the day.

4.- YOU MUST CHECK OUT IN THE SAME TIMESHEET YOU CHECKED IN. If we find you in a different timesheet for the same day and time we will only count your volunteering as 1 hour.

5.- IF YOU  HAVE QUESTIONS ASK THE COORDINATORS! Victor is your Mexican Pavilion Volunteer Coordinator along with Angela, and they will be able to help you solve any question or problem you may have. AVISO IMPORTANTE PARA VOLUNTARIOS LLEGANDO O SALIENDO!

1.- TIENES QUE REGISTRARTE. Si no te registras no tendrás la oportunidad de ser el ganador de las rifas de voluntarios, y no podremos enviarte la invitación para la fiesta de voluntarios

2.- TIENES QUE PONER TUS HORAS DE TRABAJO (LLEGADA Y SALIDA). Si no haces esto, asumiremos que solo voluntariaste 1 hora.

3.- SOLU TÚ TE PUEDES REGISTRAR A TI MISMO. Estaremos verificando firmas; si no encontramos firma o vemos diferentes firmas para la misma persona, no contaremos tus horas del día.

4.- TIENES QUE CHECAR TU ENTRADA Y SALIDA EN LA MISMA HOJA. Si encontramos tu nombre en una hora diferente para el mismo día y hora, solo te contaremos 1 hora de voluntariado.

5.- SI TIENES DUDAS PREGUNTA A LOS COORDINADORES! How to get to the pavilion!

Hi everyone!

Thanks to all the people that have been contacting us and want to volunteer. We still need volunteers in some areas so feel free to contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or show up at the pavilion and look for the volunteer coordinators so you can start helping.

We need volunteers From Sunday August 7th until August 13th from 9 am until 11 pm. (or 2 am on late night parties). So let us know if you are interested! We promise you'll have an unforgettable experience.

You can also use winnipeg transit website and put St Norbert Community Centre (3450 Pembina Highway) as destination.

Mexican Pavilion Setup

Hello Everyone!!

Folklorama 2011 is here and the Mexican Pavilion starts Sunday August 7th at the St Nortbert Community Centre.
Setup will start tomorrow August 3rd at 11 am until 4pm.

We need volunteers at the Mexican PavilionThe Mexican community is small but growing so we need lots of help to make the pavilion a success.  Thank you for taking the time in considering volunteering.  If you can't volunteer then come out for the fiesta!!...Mexican style of course.  Hope to see you all there. :) Check this (http://www.mexycan.org/folklorama.html) for sneak peek for the outdoor entertainment.  Even the line up to get in will be fun. :)

We also welcome responsible kids and high school student's to help out as well. However you must be 18 years old and over to volunteer in security and the bar.  Also feel free to pass this along to friends and family members who may be interested in volunteering as well.

The Perks of Volunteering:

  • Only people volunteering get "free" entrance for the day you are volunteering
  • Every 4 hours of volunteering the volunteer gets a meal+non-alcoholic drinks (maximum of 2 meals per day).
  • All day at any time volunteers have access to water.
  • Every day we will have a raffle. If the volunteer is not present, he/she will be contacted by email or phone.
  • Every hour of volunteering will get the volunteer a ticket for the daily raffle (volunteering 4 hours in 1 day will get you 4 tickets for the raffle)
  • We will organize a free all included (unlimited food, unlimited alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks) party with more prizes including a grand prize (a flight/trip).a few weeks after folklorama.
  • All volunteers will have free access to the appreciation party
  • All volunteers will get a certificate of participation
  • If requested,  volunteers will get a letter of participation and hours participated
  • Every 3 hours of volunteering will get 1 ticket for the grand prize (someone can volunteer 1 hour during 3 days and get a ticket, or 3 hours every day and get 7 tickets and so on...)
  • All volunteers will have free access to the party
  • All volunteers will get a certificate of participation
  • If requested, volunteers will get a letter of participation and hours

The Areas we need volunteers are:

  • SETUP/TAKE DOWN: pavilion setup, cultural display setup, kitchen setup, random tasks. Some of the tasks require lifting heavy objects
    Aug 3 - Aug 7 and Aug 13 - Aug 16
    9am - 8pm 
    10ppl * (hours and people needed may vary  depending on tasks completion)

 

  • Kitchen: prepare food, transport food from kitchen to food line. Some of the tasks require lifting heavy objects

  • Food line: serving food, finish food assembling
    3pm-4pm

    4pm-11pm
    15ppl

 

  • Cleaning: take out garbage bags, clean tables between shows, reorganize chairs between shows, general cleaning

  • VIP & Tours: serving food to VIP, Tours and Handicap guests.

  • Admissions: count people, organize entrance line, check tickets (This one is good if you require to sit)

  • Security: Crowd handling, organize entrance and exits, direct traffic, report incidents to coordinators, and safeguard valuable items

Late night parties need BAR and SECURITY full volunteers plus half of the CLEANING and FOOD LINE volunteers

Please Note: Volunteers might be shifted from their original area depending on the areas we need help with. I am sure you will understand if this does occur but will do our absolute best to avoid this of course. :)
